How Your Septic System Works

Everything You Need to Know About Septic Systems

Most people think that septic tank maintenance is enough to keep everything in order. If you want to have a system with a long life, you need to get a septic tank system designed for your property in mind as well as the usage level and the conditions of the environment to avoid dangerous or expensive collapses and other problems.

Your system also needs to adhere to the health codes as well as building and department codes. You will also need to get a septic tank inspection.

Follow These Steps With Your New Septic System

Contact your health department and ask for the following information:
Was there a septic system design submitted and approved?
There should be drawings and designs done of your septic system available and you should ask for copies. Make sure to check if there is a confirmed inspection and a septic construction permit that should have been obtained before the building and installation.

Ask for a site tour of the system from the contractor who designed it.
The contractor can help you locate all of the parts and components of the septic system to show you where they were installed including the drain field and more.

Septic drawing:
If you cannot find an accurate drawing of your septic system, you can sketch all the measurements and the location of all the system's components on your site tour.

Inspect the final septic system site and components
If your septic tank has never been used, it should be empty.

Inspect the tank and open its service ports so you can see if there are any leaks from surface or groundwater in the tank as it should be empty if it was never used.

If you do notice leaks or other problems with your septic tank and system, contact A1 Environmental Septic Tank Services. Don't wait until it's too late. We can provide same-day service to get you fast repairs to put your system back in order and performing properly.
